Comparison: 2021 Jeep Compass Vs. Subaru Crosstrek

Comparison: 2021 Jeep Compass Vs. Subaru Crosstrek

The compact crossover market is one of the most competitive sectors in Canada in 2021, with a wide selection of vehicles available covering all specifications and abilities. Two of the best sellers in the field are the Jeep Compass and the Subaru Crosstrek, both aiming at drivers who value both city convenience and off-road ability. Which one is right for you? Read our 2021 Jeep Compass vs Subaru Crosstrek comparison review to find out.

Under the Hood

Every Compass in the 2021 lineup is fitted with a 2.4L four-cylinder engine making a robust 180 horsepower and 175lb-ft of torque. This is plenty enough power for everyday use, and also opens up the option of capable off-roading. In contrast, the standard Crosstrek is only fitted with a 2.0L engine making much less at 152 horsepower and 145lb-ft. If you need more power, there's a 182 hp engine available on the upper trims, but you'll need to pay a substantial upgrade fee to get it.

Comfort and Convenience

The Compass interior is treated by a dual-zone climate control system to ensure comfort throughout the cabin, whereas the Crosstrek features only a single-zone system. Comfort is increased in the Compass for both driver and passenger thanks to seats that adjust six ways to suit every body size, while only height adjustment is available in the Crosstrek.

And lastly, for this section, the Compass offers greatly more convenience thanks to its larger cargo capacity. With all seats upright, the Jeep offers 770L of space compared to the Subaru's 592L. The difference is just as apparent with the rear seats folded down, with the Compass offering 1,693L of cargo capacity compared to the Crosstrek's 1,566L.

Infotainment Systems

Both SUVs are generously equipped with infotainment technology, but the Jeep's choice of 7" or 8.4" touchscreens is more generous than the Crosstrek's choice of 6.5" or 8". But this difference aside, both SUVs offer all the modern tech features you'd expect from a 2021 crossover.

Crosstrek vs Compass: The Verdict

Both cars are great examples of the compact crossover SUV experience, but the Compass comes out on top in several key areas. If you're looking for great performance and dependable power, the new 2021 Compass easily beats the Crosstrek, although if you're willing to pay extra the Crosstrek can be upgraded to match. The Compass has a small but important advantage in the infotainment stakes, and when it comes to cargo capacity and overall convenience, the Jeep is a clear winner.
